Coming to Lope

Lope is situated at the heart of Gabon in the province of Ogooue-Ivindo, 350 km away from Libreville.
You can go to Lope either by car or by train.

If you decide to come by road without owning a private car, you can hire an all-terrain vehicle in Libreville. Be aware that rental costs are very high in Gabon and that you may pay some fees concerning the authorisation for leaving Libreville. Moreover, make sure you have enough fuel cans for the round trip because fuel sold outside big cities is often of poor quality.

If you decide to come by train, the national railway company SETRAG will take care of your trip. Its motto: « If nothing against it ». You have been warned!

In order to know the prices, please refer to SETRAG website: https://www.setrag.ga/

The train ticket can be bought either to the commercial agency situated in Libreville city centre or at any train station. The last stops are Owendo (Libreville suburbs) and Franceville. Lope is about mid-flight, between Ayem and Offoue, making you arriving usually in the dead of night. Rather uncomfortable but such is Gabon.

Make sure you have enough change when buying the train ticket and weighing your luggage because SETRAG rarely has it to repay the difference!

Luggage transportation: Aboard the train, you are allowed to take two hand luggages weighing no more than 22 lbs. Heavier pieces must be checked in and weighed at least 90 minutes before the train departure but we recommend you to do it much more in advance so as to be sure that there is place left. Like this, you will avoid the scramble in the final straight ;)

Have a nice trip!
